Viva La Mexico

So the Trip…………….Sorry it’s been awhile.  We’ve been back for a week now.  It’s hard to get out of that vacation mode.  First of all I just have to say a HUGE thank you to my parents for sending us out on this cruise.  It was amazing!!  Then not only that but they also came and watched our 3 children for a whole week!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!    So on to the trip.  I don’t think I have ever been able to let down the way that we were able to on this trip.  If it is feasible we will always cruise from now on.  Everything is taken care of for you and you never have to worry about a thing.  It really allowed me the time to spend with Colleen and re-connect like we haven’t had the chance to for a very long time.  It also allowed us to relax in our own ways.  I was able to start writing more (I’ll post that too).  I was able to really just let down and not think about anything at all.  It made me realize that I need to find a place for this in my everyday life.  Maybe it can’t be as extreme as being completely away for a week but some time needs to be set aside for my all around health.  That’s going to take some big changes but we’re starting to make that happen.  More to come on all of that.

In Puerto Viarta we got of the ship and boarded a Pirate Ship.  It was about 8:30 in the morning and they started passing out Rum and Coke!  Well since we were going to be pirates for a day we decided that we might as well take it on!  “When in Rome do as the Romans do”!!!  We sailed out to a beach where we went snorkeling for about  30 min.  and then swam half a mile to the beach where we were met with more drinks.  At the beach we just spent some time relaxing and playing in the ocean and then headed back to the pirate ship.  We had some pirate grub and even more pirate drink.  After that we had to call it a day.

The next day we arrived in Mazatlan.  We did a lot of shopping and just enjoyed walking around a bit.  Towards the end of the day we got a ride into Old Town Mazatlan which is not what we thought it would be like.  Lots of fish everywhere.  You could tell that the fish had been sitting out all day long.  The smell was awful.  It smelled like rotting fish, poop, pee and vomit all rolled into one wave of toxic smell.  Mix that with 100 degrees and 100% humidity.  Not good!  Anyway we didn’t stay long for obvious reasons.  We could also tell that we were not wanted so much in this part of town.  Not many tourists in that area.  In fact when the cab driver dropped us off he kind of pointed and then took off real fast!

The next day we arrived in Cabo San Lucas.  Cabo is definitely Americanized.  We found a cool restaurant to have a few beers in and walked around again just taking in all the sights.  It was a lot of fun.

Most of the time was spent on the boat of course and this wasn’t a bad thing.  They took care of everything.  Every night we had a 5 course meal (and you could have the same for breakfast and lunch if you wanted).  Our room was cleaned twice a day.  Anything that we wanted we got.  Everything short of wiping our butts was done for us and I suspect that they may have even done that if we asked them too.  It was an amazing way to travel.  We met all sorts of great people.  Some that will be long time friends!  We come back feeling refreshed and ready to take on another 7 years of marriage.  This will not be our last cruise!  In fact I’m already looking at booking one for next year at this time!!

  2. You really had some great fun. I visited in Cabo last year with my wife and had a refreshing vacation. Cabo San Lucas has some of the quality restaurants with beach fronts. My favorite’s : “The Office On The Beach” situated on Modano Beach & Edith’s Cafe at Camino a Playa El Modano highly recommended for wine enthusiast(great selection). I am longing to visit Cabo once again.
